HKFM Badge Level System
A journey measured by skill, not by time.
In Fencing Master, every badge tells a story. The badge colour represents the phase of training a student has reached, while the number at the centre marks their level within that phase. Together, they form an 8-level journey — from a student's first Blue badge all the way to the prestigious Yellow badge.
Why Badges Matter
The badge system is more than a ranking — it is an incentive. Each level gives students a clear goal, celebrates how far they have come, and shows them exactly what to master next. A serious student can typically reach the Yellow badge in 4–5 years.
How Promotion Works
Promotion is earned, not given. To advance, students must pass a structured badge exam assessing four areas:
-
Technique – footwork, attacks, parries and ripostes, performed to standard
-
Bouting & tactics – applying skills in real situations
-
Knowledge – theory quiz and practical tasks (scoring, equipment, rules)
-
Safety, conduct & attitude – respect, emotional control and leadership
Every level has a clear Pass line and a Merit line for outstanding performance. If a student narrowly misses one area, they can redo that area within weeks rather than retaking the whole exam.
Advancing at Your Own Pace
There is no fixed timeline — each student is different, and promotes at a pace measured by skill, commitment and readiness. Every new colour symbolises the knowledge and power gained through training and experience.
Earning Your Badge
On completing all requirements, students receive an official promotion certificate and the respective badge — proudly worn on the fencing jacket as a mark of achievement, and a promise of greater challenges ahead.
