English: Asian U23 Women’s Foil
On 28 October 2026, the Asian Under-23 Fencing Championships opened in Manama, Bahrain. Day-1 individual events included women’s foil and men’s sabre.
In women’s foil, Hong Kong swept gold, silver and both bronzes — locking the entire top four. Gold went to 15-year-old Leung Yan Kiu Zareena, competing at this championship for the first time; she beat teammate Wong Shun Yat 15–11 in the final. Silver: Wong Shun Yat. Bronze: Lorraine Wong and Leung Ya Lei Janelle. In the semi-finals, Wong Shun Yat beat Lorraine Wong 15–12, and Leung Yan Kiu Zareena edged Leung Ya Lei Janelle 15–14. All four Hong Kong fencers cleared the pools and reached the last 16, then the final four.
Same-day context only: Fong Hiu Nam won men’s sabre gold. This post stays focused on the women’s foil sweep.

A note for parents
From Head Coach Lau Kwok Kin (Headcoach Kin / 總教練 劉國堅): a continental U23 foil title at age 15 is a clear pathway signal for families whose children fence foil — cadet and junior work can lead onto the Asian age-group stage. Hong Kong locking 1–2–3–3 also shows the depth of HK women’s foil. Lessons worth taking home: composure from pools through direct elimination, and focus when the final is against a teammate. Encourage young foilists to treat every pool bout as learning and every DE bout as composure practice. To try a Professional class pathway at our Central club, Book a Trial / 預約試堂.
