English: Takamatsu Men’s Foil World Cup

From 15–18 October 2026, the FIE season-opening Men’s Foil World Cup was held in Takamatsu City, Japan.

In the individual event, gold went to Alexander Choupenitch (CZE), silver to Maxime Pauty (FRA), and bronze to Guilherme Toldo (BRA) and Toshiya Saito (JPN).

In the team event, Russia took gold, Japan silver and Italy bronze. Hong Kong finished 4th after losing the bronze match 35–45 to Italy. The Hong Kong lineup was Cheung Ka Long, Choi Chun Yan, He Cheng Qian and Leung Chin Yu.

Seventeen-year-old He Cheng Qian reached the individual quarter-finals, having beaten Japan’s Kazuki Iimura earlier, and played a key role in the team. Cheung Ka Long sat out later team matches because of a left-hand injury.

The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic fencing scoring cycle starts in April 2027.

A note for parents

For young foilists, Takamatsu shows how far strong basics and composure can take you — a 17-year-old reaching a senior World Cup quarter-final is a powerful example. It also underlines team depth: when a star is injured, squadmates still have to deliver. With the LA 2028 scoring cycle beginning only in April 2027, this is a valuable window for juniors to build experience on the international circuit.
